Building a new partnership

Travelling to a new place and having to perform on a strange horse is never easy.  Fortunately for me,  this is nothing new.

Upon arrival in Belgium, after travelling for more than 30 hours,  I was taken to Chris’s stable yard, where I was introduced to Donderwolk that evening.  Doni has only ever been ridden by her rider, Nathalie,  who also backed her.

As I first sat on Doni she was very confused and initially wasn’t sure if she must move forward. After lots of reassuring she began to trust and understand me and we started working well together. I knew after the first ride that we were suited for each other. Most importantly I trusted her .

Since my arrival I have been having lessons with either Chris or Philippa daily.  These lessons together with lengthy daily grooming sessions have ensured that Doni and I are forming a tight bond. I feel that the mare and I have come a long way in a short space of time and I look forward to what the next few weeks have in store for us.
